iPad

Apple finally announced its new tablet product, theĀ iPad, on Jan 27th Event. For sure it will redefine the tablet market, and maybe the whole mobile world. Compared to iPhone, iPod touch & Mac.. here are my takes:

Good things:

  • Big screen with multitouch
  • iPhone apps work here
  • Nice external design (really light & slim!)
  • Nice new looks for pre-installed apps
  • Good price
  • iBooks
  • iWork mobile version
  • working on 3G
  • Mic & Speakers
  • The keyboard accessory
  • Long battery life time
  • Syncing with other devices
  • Has location services

Bad Things:

  • No Arabic keyboard (although it there since iPhone OS 3.0!)
  • No USB port
  • No front camera (although I have never used my macbook’s!)
  • No documents or files app, something like Mac Finder that makes files shared across the whole system and installed apps.
  • No Flash (as it displays full sized page of website, not like iPhone which requires a customized version, this is somehow not fair for advertisers with flash banners!)
  • Micro-SIM
  • The Dock Connector is at the bottom, so the assisted keyboard won’t work in landscape mode, only portrait one.
  • No Multitasking

Things can’t judge now

  • How location definition works (for assisted GPS)
  • How to hold and type (sure it should be usable, it is Apple after all! but I am little concerned..)
  • Worldwide Micro-SIM availability

Anyway, I always think it not wise to buy the first version of any product, take iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G as example.
